PortAventura is a theme park and resort located in Salou, Tarragona, Spain on the Costa Daurada, an away from the south west of Barcelona. Here you will be surrounded by landscapes, beaches, monuments to discover and enjoy. This is the ideal destination for family holidays consisting of 2 parks and about 4 different themed hotels.
PortAventura displays over 6 worlds of the theme park as well as including an incredible aquatic park with amazingly luxurious hotels to give you a trip to remember. This unforgettable trip around the world includes places such as, China, Polynesia, Mexico, far west, Mediterranean, and SesamoAventura.
This was established and further jointly expanded by a Spanish Consortium and Anheuser-Busch (BEC-Busch Entertainment Corporation) where the Tussauds group took over the Spanish partners as investors as some of them left, therefore they fully developed the place and became the first operators.
However in 1997 most of the shares in the park was brought by universal where the park was rebranded as ‘universal PortAventura’ and further on in 2000 an extra two hotels and a water park ( Costa Caribe) was also constructed and this was further re branded to a ‘Universal Mediterranea’.
Moreover in 2004, the universals studio parent sold all the Interest over to PortAventura which is currently owned by the banking company La Caixa and in 2005 the universal name was dropped from the branding and the resort was back to its own name, PortAventura.
The five areas of the park are based on the historic civilization, and the last one Sesame Street was opened purely for the 2011 season of the park.
The Mediterranean gives you a warm welcome in to PortAventura as it is the main entrance of the park, it features about three rides however there are many restaurants and shops. Upon arrival you will enjoy the not only some of the most amazing rides but the unforgettable magical entertainment provided.
The main attraction of this area is the ‘Furious Baco’ which is an accelerator coaster with winged seating, speed of 83.9mph (135 km/h) and it’s the fastest rollercoaster in Europe! Another ride in this themed area is the ‘Estacio Del Nord’ which is one of the three stations of the PortAventura tour. Last but not least, ‘Port de la Drassana’ one of the boats rides station which takes visitors from this area to the Chinese area.
Also the Mediterrania holds the show for Halloween parade, where the whole park is dressed in black and purple and there are many characters disguised in different costumes and their mode of transport, as in old fashioned horse driven funeral carriage, pumpkins, skeleton riding a bicycle boat, train, plane, and of course a very scary large demon.
This is where you can live the fun exciting adventurous themed as an old American west town. This has many western buildings and sculptures; this has over 9 different attractions making this area of the park the biggest of them all.
Some of the attractions include a Wild West version of tea cups and dodgems. This favors thrills rides such as, ‘stampida’ a race between two herds of buffalo, known as the third largest roller coaster in the park. Another one called the grand canyon’s rapids, a white water tub raft where there are water cannons next to this ride, allowing guests to squirt people on the rides.
This is purely exclusively on pre Colombian Mexico. This features temples, statues, dense vegetation ancient ruins and a great Pyramid that is the Entranceto the Gran Teatro Maya, the biggest show zone of the park.
One of the attractions in this area is the ‘ Hurakan Condor’ which is an intamin tower ride operated by a cable lift, this shows a large view at the top before rides are sent to free fall to the bottom of the ride. This is also considered to be one of the tallest in the world at 330 ft and is somewhat labelled as the greatest. You can enjoy the Mexican cuisine at the restaurants that will provide you with a show where people sing and dance to the Mexican rhythm.
This area is a bit more laid back with less thrilling rides, set up amongst the palm trees, shrubs and plants in this area. It’s one of the smallest themed areas and is home to two shows and very few attractions. One of the main rides is the ‘Tutuki Splash’, which is a water ride amongst a erupting volcano.
This is considered to be the biggest land of the theme park, this includes a Chinese buffet called Marco Polo with good range of dishes available. The main part is designed the same as the Great Wall of China.
The most challenging ride of PortAventura is the dragon khan, which is the most iconic ride and acts as the host of imperial china.
This is for the younger generation and specifically designed for the children. Its home to over 11 rides. There are many characters to meet from such as Bert and Ernie etc that will delight children of all ages.
