Barcelona: Let’s visit Museums for free

When you come to Barcelona with a small budget and you can’t visit as many Museums as you wanted to… Don’t worry, Barcelona has the answer! In fact, are you aware of the Museums for free once in a week?

It exists over 50 museums in Barcelona, and some of them are free on Sundays from 3:00 pm to 20:00 pm, the first Sunday or Wednesdays of the month, often on Saturdays. You got it, you only have to check the free entrance day of the Museum you want to visit. It depends on the Museums but almost all of them are free on Sundays afternoon.

Barcelona History Museum (MUHBA)

This Museum presents ruins which have been discovered by archeologists and share historical and cultural heritage of Barcelona from its beginning to nowadays. It has been opened in 1943 and is located in the Plaça del Rei.

Where? : Plaça del Rei, s/n, Barcelona

Days of free entrance are on Sundays from 3:00, the first Sunday of the month all day, and the February 12th, September 24th, and May 18th.

Picasso Museum

It gathers Picasso’s masterpieces and his different period above all his first paintings. An impressive exhibition of over 3800 pieces and located in Born where Picasso grew up and lived his youth. Come here to see how Picasso became unforgettable.

Botanic Garden

A botanical garden with many Mediterranean flowers and plants including plants from Mediterranean climate around the world. It is set near Montjuic Mountains. We can also admire Canary Island’s fauna. Come and you will be amazed by this little natural paradise.

Music Museum

There you can find many old instruments as well as worldwide instruments, music tools and you learn more about music and its development. It you are interested just step by, you won’t be disappointed, with over 500 instruments exposed.

Maritime Museum

Even if you don’t know so much about boats, this place can be interesting, you can see vaults, caravels, and also learn about the navigations tools. Discover how boats have improved and the collection of documents about first time Barcelona put maritime border.

Where? : Avinguda de les Drassanes, s/n, Barcelona

Catalan Art National Museum (MNAC)

With a huge collection of paintings, sculptures, documents, photography… you will be able understand the Catalan Art and also its importance during the mid 20th century. There are many archives and this museum is known for its unique and most complete collection of Romanesque Art (an historical period from 10th century to 13th century). You will learn more than you think and pass near to the Magic Fountain located in front of the museum.

Blau Museum

It is a natural science museum where you can learn more about the Earth and the evolution of life. In the entrance you will face a whale skeleton, the whale was found on the beach in the 19th century. The museum presents the Earth like a living being and tells its history. Come to visit this museum and feel like you are having a travel back in time in the Earth’s life.

Where? : Carrer de Leonardo Da Vinci, 4, Barcelona

This list doesn’t show all the free museums, there are a lot remained like Frederic Marès Museum, Contemporary Culture Center of Barcelona (CCCB), Design Museum…

Families, tourists and students will be interested and will be pleased to not pay and enjoy culture for free. Rent an accommodation for more comfort in the Gothic district, or near to the Montjuic Mountain to enjoy all these wonderful landscapes.

  1. Nice little trick to visit for free! Also usually when you’re under 25 and you’re a student you have free entrance or at least some price offers!
