You can’t visit Barcelona without spending time in Eixample! L’Eixample, which means “the extension” in Catalan; is the upper part of Barcelona city center. While Ciutat Vella is filled with small winding and narrow streets. Eixample neighbourhood is a perfect grid of large boulevards surrounding building blocks of the exact same size. This means that there are many modern spacious APARTMENTS. Many of the buildings in this area are the famous Catalan Modernist style. Eixample has the highest concentration of Modernist buildings in the world. In addition, it is also home to the famous shopping street PASSEIG DE GRÀCIA, which is filled with designer boutiques, fancy restaurants, and modern bars.

You’ll find plenty of different architectural styles in this district, another major differentiator of the neighborhood. Masterpieces, such as the Casa Milá, for the noble family Milá, and the Casa Battló. His most famous work is the roman-catholic basilica Sagrada Familia which has built since 1882 and hasn’t been finished ever since. It is supposed to be ready by 2026, Gaudí’s 100th death year.

Sights in Eixample

This area is filled with must-see places! Eixample is home to the world-renowned Antoni Gaudí designed church, LA SAGRADA FAMÍLIA, the church that will never be finished. Or now it seems it will, as it has been announced that it is expected to be finished in 2026, on the 100th anniversary of Gaudí’s death. Eixample is also home to some other very famous modernist buildings, like CASA BATLLOLA PEDRERA, and the ARC DE TRIOMF– the Barcelona equivalent of Paris’ “Arc de Triomphe”. There are also several nice parks in the neighbourhood, for example, Plaça de Gaudí, Plaça de Tetuan, and Park de Joan Miró, where you can sit down, relax and even have a picnic.

Where to eat in Eixample

Eixample is the place to go if you like fine cuisine! Eixample has a multitude of delicious and famous restaurants. Ranging from Michelin starred world-famous restaurants, to small authentic Catalan restaurants; and in addition to foreign restaurants, you have great variety to choose from. Nonetheless if you like to have something quick and familiar that is not going to be a problem either. The area also has a number of global chain restaurants and cafes, like McDonald’s, KFC, and Starbucks.

# 1 Cinc Sentits

Cinc Sentits is a beautiful restaurant with a chic atmosphere that offers tasting menus of modern and sophisticated Catalan dishes, and in addition some excellent wine pairings.

# 2 La Bodegueta

This interesting space is an old cellar with marble tables and stools. La Bodegueta is certainly a busy traditional tapas bar with vermouth and terrace.

Drinking and Clubbing

If you like to drink once in a while, head over to the left side or Esquerra of Eixample. The right side or Dreta is more residential; whereas the left is more commercial with shops, bars, clubs, and restaurants. In the same vein, Eixample Esquerra has a number of great bars that will satisfy your drinking needs!

# 1 Espit Chupitos

Eixample neighbourhood has more than a fair share of clubs and party locations. Espit Chupitos” boasts of more than 500 different shots, certainly it’s a wonderful place to kick off your night in style.

# 2 Mojito Nightclub

 If you would like to try something a bit more interesting and fun than your average club, give the “Mojito Nightclub” a try. Here it is all Latin, with salsa, samba and further Latin dance moves being shown on the dance floor.

# 3 La Fira

One of the most famous clubs in all of Barcelona is “LA FIRA”, most importanly it’s huge dance floor is always worth a visit. Incredible cocktails and atmosphere in a space with distorting mirrors and wagons; decorated like an old amusement park.

Shopping in Eixample

Eixample neighbourhood is home to one of Europe’s most famous SHOPPING streets: Passeig the Gràcia. Moreover here you will find the stores of many of the worlds biggest designer brands; such as Dolce and Gabbana, Karen Millen, and Burberry. The stores on the Passeig de Gràcia are mainly high end, but you will also be able to find the inevitable Zara, H&M,Nike, and Mango Outlet store in the area. In addition to individual stores, you can find Arenas de Barcelona shopping center close to the left border of the neighbourhood and El Triangle shopping center in PLACA CATALUNYA.
