Between Nova Icària and Mar Bella beaches is Bogatell Beach, known to be one of the safest and most family-friendly beaches in Barcelona. In fact, the average age of visitors is between 37 and 38 years old, the oldest age group of any other beach in the city. As many of the other beaches around it, it was built during the restoration of Barcelona´s seafront in the early 1990´s as a result of the 1992 Olympic Games. The beach was developed in a way to make it more easily accessible to local residents of the Poblenou neighborhood. Currently the beach is frequented mostly by locals, with only about 30% of its visitors coming from outside Barcelona.
With a great view of Barcelona´s famous towers and the W Hotel, Bogatell beach is a great place to relax and enjoy the Mediterranean sunshine with your favorite book. Services on the beach include deckchair and parasol hire to help guarantee comfort. There is also a children´s play area nearby to keep the kids entertained. The beach hosts clean toilet and shower facilities, as well as an ever-watchful lifeguard tower and buoy marked bathing areas and breakwaters.

One of our favorite chiringuitos in Barcelona (beach bars), Xiringuito Vai Moana, is located on Bogatell Beach. As Bogatell is so popular with families, Vai Moana is one of the few places to have a menu specifically for children with a wide range of choices including macaroni or mini hamburgers. The menu includes light and healthy fare including a vermouth platter with cockles, mussels, crisps and olives, as well as cheese plates, shrimp cocktail and meat or fish done on the grill or baked (instead of fried). Their cocktail selection is also very generous, featuring caipirinhas, cosmopolitans, Mai Tais and the famous sangría.
To work off all those delicious seafood snacks, we recommend getting active by playing a game of volleyball or beach football. Bogatell beach has an area with exercise equipment, including volleyball nets, ping-pong tables and a basketball hoop. Or perhaps take a swim out to the buoy and back.
How to Get There:
