Vineyards of the Costa Brava

Most of the vineyards of the Costa Brava are in the wine region of Empordà; further nestled between the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean Sea, in the northeastern part of Catalunya. DO Empordà practically breathes the history of wine, which dates for instance back to Roman times.

In this region the type of wines varies, from robust red wines of excellent quality, characteristic and aromatic notes; fresh whites with great taste and intensity; and even rosés, with plenty of personality and freshness. In addition, a native grape of the region is the “Garnacha of the Empordà,” with which a natural sweet wine is produced. Another original sweet wine of the area is the Moscatell.

History of Vineyards in the Costa Brava region

The region of DO Empordá has its historical roots in wine production and there is still a very strong wine culture there. It should therefore come as no surprise that the region hosts various fairs, festivals, presentations and seminars related to wine throughout the year.

One especially popular festival that takes place in this region is “VIVID” , which is held during the month of April of every year. During this festival you will have the chance to take part in a variety of conferences, pairing exercises, menu tastings, excursions, live music and many more activities designed to help you discover the region’s characteristic wine along with all of its wonderful facets.

How to get there

• Car: Take the B-10 from Via Laietana, Carrer Dr. Aiguader to Exit 22; then drive on AP-7 take exit 4 and follow the N-11 to GI-614. This route will take approximately 50 minutes.
• Air: The nearest airport is Girona where you can reach starting from Barcelona El Prat. Once there you can take one bus departing every hour from Monday to Friday.
• Train: This is probably the most convenient option. Run every 45 minutes, every day of the week. If you need more information, is better to check their website.
