Top 5:

1.La Molina and Masella:

These are two amazing ski resorts. They are also one of the largest areas for skiing and snowboarding in the Pyrenees. These places are located 150-156 kilometers away from Barcelona (two hours by car) and offering 145 km of slopes.

– la Molina:

La Molina has a permanent Boardercross circuit and it is really famous for its night ski offerings. It is also the oldest ski resort in Spain. With its modern facilities and high-quality runs, many will argue this is the place to go in northern Spain. La Molina has four different ski areas and about 61 kilometers of ski routes, with the highest altitude reaching 2,445 meters. Besides the normal ski pistes, there are some specialities such as a dog sledge track, two snowshoe tracks, a snow park, a superpipe. So, it is an amazing experience that you should definitely try!

La Molina is less than two hours away from Barcelona and is the closest big ski resort to Barcelona, which along with the high standard installations makes it an obvious destination for many visitors in the capital of Catalonia.

-la Masella:

La Masella has a total of 74 kilometers of the high-quality ski area, with the altitude peaking at 2,525 meters. The great part about La Masella is that it’s only three kilometers away from La Molina. With an ALP2500 SKI PASS, you’ll get access to both La Masella and La Molina, which gives you the option to enjoy the best of both centers.

You can reach La Masella within two hours from Barcelona. The easiest way of transportation, like La Molina, is by a Renfe train in case you don’t have a car.

2.Port Ainé:

This amazing ski resort is mainly focused on the family audience with a snow park (so it is perfect for the kids), beginner skiers, and snowboarders. It has all its tracks facing north, letting you enjoy the best snow of all the resorts of the Pyrenees. It is located in the municipality of Rialp, in the Pyrenees of Lleida, right at the foot of the Pic de l’Orri  (with 2440 meters).

3.Baqueira Beret:

Baqueira Beret is one of the most crowded ski resorts in Spain due to the abundant snowfall in the northern part of the mountain range, located in the Pyrenees. In addition, its ski lifts are surrounded by summits of more than 3000 meters and lush forests. The quality of its pre-and post-ski services stands out above the other slopes. Therefore, it makes it a resort frequented by exclusive clients, for example, the King of Spain.

4. Port del Comte:

This station is divided into two sectors, the Sucre (main sector) and the other one, Estivella. Port del Comte is located in the Catalan Pre-Pyrenees, in the Vall de Lord. Most importantly, being the closest station to Barcelona (about 150km). Moreover, the facilities of Port del Comte have been greatly improved thanks to large investments, and most of its tracks run along a lush pine forest.

5. Espot:

This area is perfect for advanced skiers and snowboarders. Espot is the only ski area located next to a National Park, Aigüestortes and Sant Maurici, having more than 20 km of skiing. Above all, this ski resort is really famous for its quality of snow and for hosting numerous competitions of all winter sports. Furthermore, the tracks are special by being within lush black pine forests.

How to get there?

To sum up, most of the ski resorts & snowy areas near Barcelona are one and a half hours or two hours from Barcelona. You don’t have a car? Don’t worry!! To clarify, there is the option of going by public transport as well. The station, “Estació del Nord” is the only one that has as destinations ski resorts or villages close to Barcelona. You can get there by public transport, with the metro line 1 and get off at the Arc del Triomf station or take the bus 54 and Renfe Cercanías lines 1.3 and 4.

Grandvalira, Skiing in Andorra

If you’d like to combine your skiing trip with a visit to one of Europe’s smallest countries, Andorra, heading to Grandvalira for a weekend should make for a unique ski trip. A massive total of 205 kilometers of ski area and altitude of 2,528m guarantee you’ll be able to be looking for new routes to go down after every descent, and this is why we’ve picked Grandvalira as the recommended ski destination outside of Catalonia.
