39th edition of the Barcelona Marathon!
Barcelona Marathon is an annual event that is taking place on 12th March 2017. The runners follow a circular route through Barcelona which starts at Plaça d’Espanya passes through Camp Nou, La Sagrada Familia, the beach, the old city and then veers back towards Plaça d’Espanya. The track covers a total distance of just over 42km, although the event isn’t only for those who want to take on the 26-mile challenge – there are also 5 and 10km races that run simultaneously.
The route passes through some of the city’s most iconic monuments including works by the famous architect Gaudi, La Sagrada Familia and La Pedrera. The Barcelona marathon is one of the most popular marathons in Europe due to its beautiful scenic routes and has become a popular classic on the international marathon calendar. The proximity of the route to the harbour ensures that a breeze masks the hot springtime sun. Water points, massage services and showers also help to make the run more tolerable.
The event is also visitor-friendly and thousands of people gather to spectate. There are entertainment points with food tasting, bands and other cultural activities.
