Every year Sala Montjuïc in Barcelona marks the beginning of the summer with its moorish outdoor cinema. Starting on Friday 1st July, the fourteenth edition of this classic open air film festival runs until Friday 5th August.
Sala Montjuïc provides a sumptuous selection of timeless feature movies, concerts, short films and picnics. Movies cover different genres, cultures, themes, origins & periods. The feature movies are all in their original languages and include Spanish subtitles. So you can enjoy the original version of the movie on a giant screen while seating on the pristine grass of Montjuïc’s castle. You can bring your own blankets, chairs, snacks and drinks or rent chairs and buy what you need at the bar.
During this glorious celebration of films and culture, movies are broadcasted three times a week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Live music or short films precede all the movies so you can make a complete night of it. We recommend you aim to get there at 8:30pm as the concert starts at 8:45pm and the main movie starts at 10pm.
Whatever your taste in music Sala Montjuïc has got you covered. With performances and live music across a wide range of different genres you can sit back, relax and enjoy some first class music to get you in the mood for the movies. The genres covered include Jazz, Flamenco, Brazilian Music, Soul, Afrojazz, Blues and many more.
This year movies include classics such as Casablanca, Thelma & Louise and The Silence of the Lambs but if you fancy a modern great instead Birdman, Amy and The Wolf of Wall Street are not to be missed.
Tickets are available in advance on the Sala Montjuïc website or you can pay on arrival. So make sure you don’t miss the opportunity to enjoy this marvellous event in Barcelona.
