La Cova Fumada
La Cova Fumada is a third generation family run restaurant in the heart of Barcelona. Located within walking distance of the famous Barceloneta beach and founded in 1944 this wonderful and well respected restaurant has a legion of loyal customers who flock to savour the fantastic food.
Once an old winery and set in an informal and homely environment, La Cova Fumada serves fresh seafood and authentic Catalan tapas. Classically decorated with marble tables and wooden wine barrels they cook dishes with passion and full flavours. This restaurant has retained its traditional spirit and rustic edge. One of Spain’s classic tapas dishes is said to originate from this very kitchen, the potato bomb (bomba). Made with a small ball of mashed potato stuffed with pork and rolled in breadcrumbs before being coated in egg and fried in olive oil, these moorish bites are superb. Served with an aioli and spicy cayenne pepper sauce, people literally queue for this dish.
The menu is showcased on a vintage blackboard. There are plenty of classic tapas dishes like chickpeas with morcilla (black pudding), black Catalan sausage, aromatic stewed Cartagena beans and wholesome tomato and onion salad. For something a little more unusual try the “callos” a spicy Catalan stew. There are also seafood dishes including fresh squid, octopus and other shellfish for seafood fans.
When you’re in Barcelona head to La Cova Fumada. It will take you on a culinary journey to remember.
