It’s summer in Barcelona and that means the return of the fabulous Festa Major de Sants. Every August the streets of this famous “barrio” are transformed into a sea of colourful street displays and bustling stalls.

Festa Major de Sants transforms this residential area into a hive of vibrancy for a nine day street party. The bars, restaurants and cafés come alive and the squares are packed with locals and tourists enjoying everything this brilliant fiesta has to offer. There’s plenty of concerts and shows across the neighbourhood with something for everyone and lots of activities for the kids as well.
This free for all event also showcases some superb street food to compliment the ream of things to do that are on offer. Sants is a forty five (45) minute walk from Barcelona city centre and this wonderful community comes together attracting a huge number of visitors every year for this festival. The residents across the neighbourhood even compete for the title of best decorated street. This helps to throw up some beautiful, scenic and colourful concoctions for you to gaze at overhead as you peruse through the sixteen streets and squares that participate.
There’s tons of activities, a huge number of which are suitable for families and children, Festa Major de Sants is truly a spectacular celebration of this famous district. In keeping with Catalan traditions there are “cercavila” parades, human towers, correfocs (fireruns), sardanas (folk dancing) and gegants (giant papier maché dolls) on display throughout the festivities.
