On April 8th, 2016 internationally famous singer, songwriter and producer Anastacia will be performing live at the L´Auditori of Barcelona. The concert will be one of many outstanding live appearances forming the Milleni Festival.
Chicago native Anastacia Lyn Newkirk is perhaps best known for her pop music in the early 2000´s, especially her first two albums Not that Kind (2000) and Freak of Nature (2001). The song “Freak of Nature,” in fact, was number 1 in several countries. Her commercial appeal continued with a long list of international hits, including the official song of the 2002 FIFA World Cup, titled “Boom.” In 2004, after a year of recovering from cancer she returned with “Anastacia” (2004), the most personal album of her life. The album is best exemplified by the song “Welcome to My Truth,” which reached its most popular in Spain. This album speaks of the singer´s struggle with breast cancer. Benefits from the song “Heavy On My Heart” were donated to her foundation, whose aim it is to fight breast cancer.
In 2014, she was diagnosed a second time with breast cancer, motivating her to next album “Resurrection” to refer to her own life again. Anastacia has sold over 30 million records worldwide and has topped the US dance chart on two separate occasions. She has been the recipient of dozens of awards, among them the GQ Humanitarian Award in recognition of her decade-long efforts in breast cancer awareness.
The concert will be taking place in Barcelona´s L´Auditori, a modern building designed by the architect Rafael Moneo, which opened in 1999. The 42,000 square meter musical complex is situated in the center of the city´s busiest urban development region, Plaça de les Glòries, which unites the three longest avenues of the city – Diagonal, Gran Via and Meridiana). The building contains three spaces, Sala 1 Pau Casals with a capacity of 2,200 spectators, Sala 2 Oriol Martorell with a capacity of 600 and Sala 3 Tete Montoliu with 400 places. Within this same space you will also find the Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona, the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya and the Museu de la Música, making the building a sharp focus of musical life in Barcelona.
