Festival de la Porta Ferrada, the oldest festival in Spain, starts this month just up the road from Barcelona, in Costa Brava. The festival started on July 15 and finishes on August 20.
Festival de la Porta Ferrada
This year sees the 54th edition of this wonderful festival which first opened its doors in 1958. Held in Sant Feliu de Guíxols this unique six week long spectacular showcases local and international artists from around the world. Festival de la Porta Ferrada takes over the streets, squares and venues across the area as music, theatre and the arts are celebrated in this Catalan town.
Festival de la Porta Ferrada sees over thirty different performances in different venues across the area. With artists taking centre stage in courtyards, theatres and extravagant churches you can enjoy some fantastic performances in equally fantastic settings. The main venue is Espai Port which features a huge main stage, whilst the Església del Moestir provides the church venue for some more elegant and soulful performances.
The festival also takes place at the local Espai Carmen Thyssen Gallery. This arts centre only opened in 2012 and helps to form the cultural triangle between Sant Feliu, Girona and Figueres. The extensive programme provides plenty of opportunities to explore the area and enjoy a day away from Catalonia’s capital, Barcelona. As you would expect Festival de la Porta Ferrada provides plenty of mouth watering cuisine and thirst quenching refreshments. Make sure you delve into the fresh and local produce and enjoy everything this incredible area of Spain has to offer. With idyllic weather and a stunning location this is the perfect place for a summer festival.
