If you are a citizen of the European Union, you will need the European Health Insurance Card, which is blue and bears a ring of stars, along with your name, birth date and social security number on it. If you have it with you, you won’t have to pay to be admitted into the hospital.
If you are a citizen from a country outside of Europe and you can’t afford staying in a hospital, you should contact your embassy for advice on how to proceed and on how to receive financial help.
