When to call for an ambulance?
Living in Barcelona, or being here on vacation is always a joy – when no medical emergency happens. There is nothing more frustrating than becoming ill while traveling or living in a foreign city and then having to scroll through an endless list of Spanish webpages as you try to find one in English with the necessary information.
If you should ever find yourself in a situation in which you or any other person is severely hurt or is in need of immediate medical assistance, you should call an ambulance the number is 061. Keep in mind that this is only for serious or life-threatening situations. In less urgent cases, try to get to a hospital in another way.
If you are a citizen of the European Union, you will have to take your European Health Insurance Card with you, in order not to need to pay to be admitted in the hospital.
If you are a citizen from a country outside of the European Union, you should contact your embassy for advice on how to proceed.
