Cinemes Méliès
Cinemes Méliès was opened in 1996 and is considered one of the main reference points for auteur and independent cinema in Barcelona.
Since it was opened, the cinema has focused on showing high quality alternative and premiered films from classical and European cinema. The cinema has earned several awards including the Sant Jordi in 1996 and the City of Barcelona in 2003.
It is part of the Confederación Internacional de Cines de Arte y Ensayo (CICAE) and the network of European cinemas. At the fifth edition of the Barcelona Cinema awards in 2006, Cinemes Méliès was recognised for its cultural work. This work meant going against the tradition of other cinemas and granted the cinema’s founder the Carles Duran award.
