Barcelona’s 22nd International Festival of Advanced Music and New Media Art (commonly referred to as the Sónar festival), will be held between the 16th and 18th of June. Sónar was created in 1994 and has ever since been a pioneering cultural event with a unique format and content. The Sónar festival is international, happening simultaneously in many cities all over the world, including Reykjavik, Buenos Aires, New York, London, Lisbon, Tokyo, Toronto, Frankfurt, and Oakland, among many other popular destinations.
What is Sónar Festival?
For the electro-lovers among us, Sónar is the perfect music event to visit, with leading names in the current international music scene performing for three days in a row. Sónar unites established artists with emerging talents, in all areas of musical and audiovisual production through interactions and hybridizations with digital creation and new media.
The activities at Barcelona’s Sónar are divided into two main locations. The first of these is Sónar by Day, which will be taking place in Fira Montjuïc exhibition center with concerts and DJ sets, showcases and Sónar+D (which is an international congress focused on digital creative industries and the creation of professional business networking opportunities). The second location is Sónar by Night, which will be located at the Fira Gran Via de L’Hospitalet exhibition center. The venue will host several live shows and DJ sets from some of the biggest names in the international music scene.
Event organizers have already released the names of some of the artists and DJ’s who will be performing live at the Sónar 2016 festival. To name a few of them – Flume, the internationally successful Australian producer currently sweeping the charts, as well as Fatboy Slim, James Blake and Undo. So don´t hesitate, buy your tickets before they sell out and brace yourself for one of the most unforgettable festivals you´ll ever experience!
