Sevilla vs Espanyol
Sevilla vs Espanyol will give both teams the opportunity to start the new season with a victory. Espanyol will be hoping for a good season and an improvement on last seasons 13th placed finish. The club showed some disappointing away form last year with only three wins and two draws to show from their nineteen away fixtures. Espanyol’s strong home form with nine wins, including a 1-0 success over Sevilla went a long way to preserving their status as one of Catalonia’s two La Liga teams. New Manager, Quique Sánchez Flores, who has had successful spells in Spain, Portugal and England will be aiming for a strong season in Espanyol’s impressive stadium.
Sevilla vs Espanyol should see some of Espanyol’s newest stars make their La Liga debuts for the club. Espanyol have been busy in this summer’s transfer market making seven impressive signings. Leo Baptistão has joined from Atlético Madrid whilst Pablo Piatti and Javi Fuego have arrived from Valenica. José Antonio Reyes, an idol in Sevilla, has joined from Espanyol’s round one opponents alongside experienced defender Martin Demichelis and José Manuel Jurado from English teams Manchester City and Watford. Goalkeeper Roberto has also returned to work with the clubs new manager from Greek side Olympiakos. These new additions should make Espanyol more competitive for the 2016/2017 season.
