This is more than just a comedy opera.
From the 31st of January to the 17th of April 2017, you can enjoy real art work at Theatre Goya. This show takes place on every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 8:30 pm.
La obra Art means “the art work” and that’s where this opera is about. More specifically about how a blank canvas, or rather a canvas that is painted white, can articulate an hour and a half of what at first seems to be just comic ramblings but later ends up as testing the relationship between three great friends. This ’empty canvas’ explains the point of ‘Art’, written by the French playrighter Yasmina Reza and under the direction of Miquel Gorriz.
Released in 1994, La obra Art is one of best represented works in the international scene. That’s why this opera has been translated into 35 languages. As the director pointed out, it is a piece of “the things you want to do when you grow up” so he admits delighted to “have been able to assume the gear of this almost perfect device that needs three great actors.”
This is a work that goes much beyond comedy. The play highlights “the difficulty of putting themselves in the skin of the other and the problem that is very important today namely uncomunication.” In the same vein, Pou noted that “Art” reflects “the enormous fear of being left alone, to be excluded, one of the evils of the twentieth century” and at the same time “the reason why people go to the theatre sometimes”
