August 26 will see Espanyol vs Málaga taking place in Barcelona. This is the first home game of the new La Liga season for Espanyol after a difficult game against the UEFA Europa League champions for the last three years, Sevilla. Espanyol despite leading last weekends game on a number of occasions lost 6-4. New Head Coach Quique Sánchez Flores will be hoping to score the same number of goals during this round 2 fixture without conceding anywhere near as many on his return to La Liga management with Espanyol.
Espanyol vs Málaga
Espanyol vs Málaga will give both teams the opportunity to record their first victories of the new season. Málaga drew 1-1 on the opening weekend with Osasuna on the Costa del Sol. Espanyol will be hoping for a good season and an improvement on last seasons 13th placed finish. The club showed some disappointing away form last year with only three wins and two draws to show from their nineteen away fixtures. Espanyol’s strong home form with nine wins, including a 2-0 success over Málaga went a long way to preserving their status as one of Catalonia’s two La Liga teams. New Manager, Quique Sánchez Flores, who has had successful spells in Spain, Portugal and England will be aiming for a strong season in Espanyol’s impressive stadium.
Espanyol vs Málaga should see some of Espanyol’s newest stars make their home La Liga debuts for the club. Espanyol have been busy in this summer’s transfer market making seven impressive signings. Leo Baptistão has joined from Atlético Madrid whilst Pablo Piatti and Javi Fuego have arrived from Valenica. Piatti scored his first goal for the club last weekend against Sevilla. José Antonio Reyes has also joined alongside experienced defender Martin Demichelis and attacking player José Manuel Jurado. Who have arrived from English teams Manchester City and Watford. Goalkeeper Roberto has also returned to work with the clubs new manager from Greek side Olympiakos. These new additions should make Espanyol more competitive for the 2016/2017 season.
