What sounds like a better time than to enjoy some great music with friends in a beautiful botanical garden on the sunny Costa Brava? The Cap Roig Gardens Festival will be taking place between July 8th and August 17th, 2016 in the gorgeous Jardín Botanic de Cap Roig (in English: the Cap Roig Botanical Garden). This is considered one of the most picture-perfect botanic gardens on the Mediterranean coast. The venue boasts a unique mixture of nature, art, culture and history within a 17 hectare enclave, which is home to 1,000 plant species from all over the world, as well as to sculptures made by renowned national and international artists. The festival is organized in partnership with several famous companies, including la Caixa, Estrella, Audi and Port Aventura.
History of the Cap Roig Castle and its Botanical Gardens
You have to travel some time back into the past, all the way to 1927, to understand the history of this place. When the Russian Colonel Nicolai Woevodsky and his wife, the English aristocrat Dorothy Webster, left their court life in London to realize their own dreams, they chose this area because of its peaceful character and its easy access to nature. The place has been beautifully maintained, thanks to the doctrine and the legacy of the Obra Social « la Caixa » (one of the partners in the festival).
Schedule of performances
The event features an exciting line-up of both Spain and international celebrity performers. One of the most anticipated musicians this year is Rod Stewart, the British rock singer-songwriter. Having sold over 200 million records worldwide, he is one of the best-selling musical artists of all time. His most popular songs are “Maggie May,” “Reason to Believe” and “Tomorrow is Such a Long Time.” Also making an appearance will be Santana, the American Latin rock band that has sold over 1000 million records and reached over 100 million fans at concerts worldwide. The band was made especially famous by two of their hit songs, “Maria Maria” and “Black Magic Woman.” Other celebrities will include Sopa de Cabra, Sergio Dalma and Rosario. Concerts are scheduled from the 8th of July until the 17th of August, with performances beginning at 10 p.m. each night.
