Shawn Mendes is coming to Barcelona on 12th May to perform on a two-stop tour in Spain. The concert will be part of his international ‘Illuminate’ tour, where he will be performing songs from his latest album ‘Illuminate’, released in 2016.
The singer, composer and pianist from Canada rose to fame in 2013 after uploading six-second videos of himself singing pop covers on video platform ‘Vine’. After uploading an acoustic version of Justin Bieber’s ‘As Long as You Love Me’, he logged back onto his account the next morning to 10,000 likes and his follower count had gone through the roof. A month after his first Vine upload, he performed his first concert in Toronto to 600 people. Andrew Gertler discovered him through social media and offered him a record deal with Island Records who had already signed many famous names such as Justin Bieber and Demi Lovato.
At only 18 years old, the young superstar is living his dream. One of his greatest achievement includes being names on Forbes’ ’30 under 30′ list, making him one of the most successful young musicians. In 2015 he released his first album ‘Handwritten’ which was extremely successful in the US and came in at number 1 in the Billboard 200 charts.
The concert will take place at Palau Sant Jordi, a large indoor sports arena near Montjuic mountain. Originally built for the purpose on hosting sporting events in the 1992 Olympics, the arena has become one of the best concert venues in the city.
