The neighborhood of Sant Andreu offers an authentic Catalan experience while still being within easy reach of the city center, by means of the nearby La Sagrera metro station. The area is known for its charming little houses, peaceful plazas and cobbled streets lined with shops. Visit the ancient Sant Andreu de Palomar church, which symbolized the history of the neighborhood. Then visit Plaça de Mercadal, a square surrounded by old houses with gorgeous arcades. The plaza now houses a local market and some traditional restaurants and bakeries, ideal for trying some local specialties such as savory coca (flatbreads).
