Markets

LA BOQUERIA MARKET is a famous indoor market hall that is a colorful explosion of fruit, vegetables, seafood, rows, and rows of cured jamón, and some mind-boggling butchers’ displays. There are tapas bars, pizza stalls, and all manner of produce you can try before you buy.

If you’re looking for a real market where tourists-to-locals are more in favor of the latter, then be sure to take a look at the fresh food market in the SANTA CATERINA MARKET.

Free entrance

THE PICASSO MUSEUM is dedicated to the life and works of Pablo Ruiz Picasso and is a must-see for any fans of the artist visiting Barcelona. It has free entrance Sunday afternoons, from 3 pm to 8 pm.

Museu d’Història de Barcelona, One of Barcelona’s most fascinating museums takes you back through the centuries to the very foundations of Roman Barcino. This beautiful museum embraces all the arts and showcases sculpture, painting, engraving, drawings, photography, and lots more, all with a Catalan focus.

The church of SANTA MARIA DEL MAR, built in the 14th century, deserves an article in its own right as one of the most beautiful Gothic cathedrals ever built. The entrance is free between 9 am and 1 pm and between 5 pm and 8 pm.

El Born Cultural Centre

See the Roman remains in El Born Cultural Centre. You’ll find some recently recovered remains and building foundations from the Roman period of the city.

Entry to the building and the central walkway is free of charge where you can get a good view of the archaeological remains. There are trilingual display boards with information about the remains, the war of the Spanish succession, and the siege of Barcelona.

Gaudi’s architecture

While many of Barcelona’s architectural gems have admission fees to see the interiors, the arguably more impressive facades can be seen for free.

PASSEIG DE GRACIA is a boulevard located in Barcelona’s Eixample district. It has a 1 KM shopping line from Plaça Catalunya to Avinguda Diagonal and to the edge of Gràcia. The wide boulevards and buildings surrounding Passeig de Gràcia transports you back to a majestic time and adds to the feeling of opulence. Along the route are many of the cities’ best examples of Gaudi’s work – Casa Battló and Casa Milà – and many of the most luxurious Spanish and international brands.

SAGRADA FAMILIA is an allegory of the Christian religion. As an amazing building of monumental proportions and meticulous decorations, the Sagrada Familia is one of the greatest monuments of the century. Despite cranes and scaffolding, a strange beauty emanates from this place. It’s worth a visit just to see the outside!

Views

If you want to see Barcelona and do not get lost with all the filled tourist spots, Bunkers Del Carmel is perfect!

It is situated on top of a small mountain, at the end of a local park where you have to hike up or take a small bus, and the view and the story behind are outstanding! This is a cozy place where locals go to hang, sit, eat and enjoy the great view.

Magic fountain

THE MAGIC FOUNTAIN OF MONTJUIC has become one of Barcelona’s most popular attractions. This is where the “Piromusical” is held, a true balletic spectacle of water and light.

The magic fountain Barcelona’s biggest ornamental fountain, which was built in 1929 for the International Exhibition. The show starts off with music from the ’70s and ’80s and continues to classical music and more recent songs. The combination of colors, music, and the movement of the water makes the evening an unforgettable adventure.

Las Ramblas

LAS RAMBLAS is located in the heart of the city and packed with people almost 24/7. It is one of the world’s most famous strips.

Las Ramblas is a long road that stretches from Plaza Catalunya all the way to the Christoper Columbus. It only has two narrow one-way traffic roads which run on either side of the central Ramblas Boulevard. Walking down Las Ramblas you can find street performers, human statues, flower stands, outdoor eating, and even pet stores. You just have to be careful of pickpockets and bag snatchers. There is a small minority of individuals who like to take advantage of this tourist-filled area.

Gothic quarter

The beautiful neighborhood known as THE GOTHIC QUARTER used to be the Roman village and thus vividly has some remnants of its glorious past and it’s the old town area of Barcelona.

The Gothic Quarter is one of the oldest districts in the city. Ironically, it’s where you’ll find some of the newest addictions by street artists. Whilst strolling through this quarter, you will walk past the merchants’ palaces of Carrer Montcada, stand mesmerized by the watchtower of the Plaça del Rei. You can also admire the cloisters and choir stalls of the stark yet imposing Gothic Cathedral and more.

Ciutadella Park

LA CIUTADELLA is Barcelona’s most central park. It covers close to 74 acres and has a lake, a zoo, several museums, and more. For decades following its creation in the mid-19th century, this park was the city’s only green space. The 70-acre grounds include the city zoo, the Palau del Parlament de Catalunya, a small lake, museums, and a large fountain designed by Josep Fontserè.

This green oasis in the heart of the city makes for the perfect escape from the crowded city. Spend a few hours wondering amongst the walkways, flowerbeds, and palm trees. Don’t forget to check out the fountains and sculptures dotted around the park. You can hire out a rowing boat and go out on the lake, or check out the zoo.

The Beaches

Only 10 minutes from the city you will find over 4 km of splendid BARCELONA BEACHES. You can lay out your towel and work on that tan.

If the weather is nice you can go for a swim in the water. Perhaps if you like sports there’s the opportunity to play volleyball on most of the beaches. If you are looking for some less crowded beaches, then walk further north towards the Fòrum area.
