Barcelona has one of the largest numbers of bikes in Europe, so it is no coincidence that the city is well adapted to the biker world. However, despite the vast number of motorbikes whizzing around, the city is labelled as safe due to the low rates of motorcycle accidents recorded. This makes Barcelona a great city to visit by bike as you can be safe and also have access to plenty of parking and routes that suit bikes as well as cars.
If you would like to check out Barcelona on your motorbike, here are five places that should not be missed.
#Montjuïc
The Montjuïc mountain route is one of the best places to ride a motorcycle as the roads are almost empty and take you up to one of the best spots in the city. This location offers an idyllic and unbeatable view of the city and is an area of great significance for lovers of motorcycles. For more than four decades, the mountain has hosted the test of the 24 hours of Montjuïc. If you try this route you can visit the walls of the castle of Montjuic and enjoy the best view of Barcelona’s port. Park up your bike and enjoy a picnic or a walk around the many gardens and green areas Montjuïc has to offer.
#A route through Barcelona
The city of Barcelona spans all the way from Llobregat to Besós. To go through Barcelona on a motorbike tour you should start a route that goes from the area closest to Llobregat to the Ronda Litoral and across the entire port area of the Passeig de CanTunis, from there you will enjoy excellent views that will take you to the Plaza de Drassanes to continue along with Paseo Colom, paseo Joan de Borbó and Paseo Maritime.
This route is ideal for those who have not visited Barcelona before or who do not know the city well as it gives you a great view of the best bits the city centre has to offer. You can make as many stops as you like along the way too!
#Tibidabo
Barcelona has many beautiful spots where you can view the whole city, but one of the best is Tibidabo. The journey up the mountain is great fun with the many windy roads and there are stunning views all along the way. You can start your journey from the Vía Augusta and Ronda de Dalt intersection. From here, travel up to Avenida de Vallvidrera and take the road from Sarria to Vallvidrera. Here you can enjoy a fantastic viewpoint of the whole city. In Vallvidrera you should check out the historic Casa Trampa which dates back to 1882, an interesting attraction for history lovers. Finally, follow the road along Alberes and you will arrive at Tibidabo.
Tibidabo is located 512 meters above sea level, which makes it the highest peak in the Collserola mountain range. It stands out not only for its views but also for its natural spaces – the perfect destination for those who enjoy nature and being outdoors. You can also enjoy the small amusement park that sits on top of the mountain if you fancy it!
#Montseny
Montseny is located within the Catalan mountain range and offers you a delightful driving experience with long curved roads surrounded by forests and sheer drops overlooking the views below. There are many ways of reaching this area but we recommend the route from Montmeló in the direction of Santa María de Palautordera.
Along the way, you will also find Collformic, a mountain port sitting 1,145 metres high with excellent views. After this, the route will take you to the Monastery of Sant Marçal in Montseny and the Park that sits close by. You must take a look at la Ermita de San Marçal de Montseny which is a small Romanesque-style church within the monastery.
#Las pozas de Aiguafreda
On the way to Montseny, you will find another place that should not be missed. These are the pools of Aiguafreda. You can head here straight from Collformic and continue in the direction of Seva towards Aiguafreda.
In this area, you will find beautiful pools in which you can take a refreshing dip, perfect for a sunny day. They are located on the right of Martinet, an ideal route for those who enjoy more rural areas. If you want to disconnect for a few hours in the middle of nature this route is for you, especially when the sun is shining!
Although this list could be endless, we have chosen those points of the city that we consider the best for your motorcycle adventure from Barcelona. Remember that it is very easy to find places to park your bike so you do not need to worry about this.
