Indeed, the city of Barcelona is considered to be one of the best European capitals for contemporary art. Even if you are not looking for anything in particular, you can always find out works of famous street artists and performers on the streets. But also there is one place, which is impossible to avoid if you are looking for the concentration of modern culture in Barcelona. Indeed, this place is the Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA).

History of the MACBA

Firstly, the MACBA opened in 1995 and its striking building was designed by American architect Richard Meier. Indeed, the art on display consists of works from the latter half of the 20th century and some of the artists which have permanent collections in the museum include Tàpies, Klee and Torres. The museum also hosts various events and activities promoting contemporary art amongst younger generations.

Moreover, the Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art is a modern and light space in which to view contemporary art pieces and due to the changing nature of the exhibitions there is always something different to see. The museum is great to visit on a rainy day, if you are unlucky enough to experience that during your stay here. MACBA is yet another intriguing and fascinating museum to discover in the city of Barcelona.
