Poble Espanyol

Discover Poble Espanyol

Where can you visit the whole of Spain in just one village? In the charming Poble Espanyol. Located in Montjuïc, this 49,000m2 open air museum provides an escape to a picturesque Spanish village without ever leaving the city.

The village was built in 1929 for the World Fair to bring together the architectural styles from across Spain into one village. Although it was only supposed to last for 6 months, due to its popularity the village has remained open ever since. From Andalucia to the Balearic Islands all the way up to the Basque region. 177 streets, squares and buildings have been reproduced, some are exact replicas others based on a particular architectural style.

There is a lot to see and do in the village itself including artesan shops and workshops, bars, restaurants, a contemporary art museum, a sculpture garden, culinary workshops and Flamenco shows. There are about 40 artesan shops and workshops such as glass making, jewellery, ceramic, embroidery and delicatessen products. During the summer months, the village often hosts various concerts and events. The Daurel Foundation of Contemporary Art Museum offers temporary art exhibitions and you can wander through the sculpture garden viewing the 27 contemporary sculptures on show and also get a great view of the city of Barcelona.

With so many activities on offer in the quaint Poble Espanyol you will find it very easy to spend the whole day here.
