Hostels in Barcelona

If you are looking for cheap accommodation in Barcelona, either by yourself or with friends, then a hostel is a great option. Hostels in Barcelona are certainly cheap and in abundance all over the city, but it’s first best to consider the good and bad aspects to staying in a hostel.

Positives

The obvious plus is that hostels can be dead cheap and can include a host of facilities and extras such as free breakfasts, linen, towels, laundry service and internet access. A hostel can also be a great and really easy way to meet people who share a love and passion for travelling. Many hostels now organise a whole variety of events such as salsa dancing, bar crawls and day trips out to the main sights. This helps you to not only get to know the city of Barcelona but have fun and make new friends at the same time.

Not so positives

Don’t expect to get much privacy in a hostel. That said, for those wanting a bit more privacy at a reasonable rate, some hostels offer single or double rooms (some even with ensuites) which cost slightly more than a dorm. If you stay in a dorm it can get noisy so you may not get the best nights sleep due to people coming and going. However, most hostels ask guests to keep noise to a minimum throughout the night and to be mindful of others sharing the dorm. I would highly recommend taking earplugs just in case. Once you’ve decided if a hostel is for you, keep in mind the following:

– Do I want to cook my own meals and therefore need a kitchen?

– Is there internet? Are linen and towels included? And are there security lockers available?(Don’t forget to take a padlock with you for the locker so that you can be sure your stuff is safe when you’re out and about exploring Barcelona.)

– Hostels can be really cheap and great for meeting people from all over the world. Remember to check what facilities are on offer beforehand so that you can make the most of your trip to the spectacular city of Barcelona!
