Carlota Akaneya

Carlota Akaneya is a unique restaurant in Barcelona specialising in Japanese Sumiyaki (Japanese BBQ) which will transport you to Japan for a night of authentic cuisine in a welcoming environment.

Each table has its own built in barbecue which is inspired by a famous restaurant in Kyoto. The restaurant offers two set menus priced at €37 and €66 per head or dine a-la-carte. The decor is cosy and inviting with wooden panels and backlit screens in keeping with an authentic Japanese hibachi.

It is famous for the outstanding quality of the meat, especially the kobe and wagu beef. Cooked on the homemade charcoal grill, called the shichirin, this type of cuisine is an important part of Japanese food culture. The meat is imported directly from Japan and the kobe beef grade A5 is famous for its marble texture and buttery flavour. Rarely served outside of Japan, Carlota Akaneya became Europe’s first restaurant to offer this grade of kobe.

The €37 per head set menu is made up of eleven different courses including traditional miso soup, gyozas with chicken and vegetables, yakisoba noodles, lemon mousse and chocolate truffles. They also offer seafood and beef chuck flap, tri tip, rump or brisket available as part of the €37 set menu and some more exclusive cuts as part of the €66 offering. The €66 set menu includes duck broth with noodles, thin beef skirt, beef high back, beef hanging tender and kobe A5 fillet.

Carlota Akaneya is a must when you’re in Barcelona. It’s a fantastic chance to enjoy authentic Japanese food in decadent surroundings.
