The summer transfer window closes today. 2017’s one was full of emotions for FC Barcelona. Many Blaugrana fans are totally disgusted with what Barca’s authorities achieved this summer. Let’s finally end up gossiping and talk about the actual acquisitions made.
FC Barcelona’s crucial challenge was not to let Neymar Jr leave. It actually didn’t happen and the Brazilian went to Paris Saint Germain, with a record-breaking €222 mln transfer. Cules society was shocked, especially after Club’s people claims. The Catalans’ defender – Gerard Pique – also posted a picture with Ney on his Instagram account and signed it with popular “Se queda” which just means “He stays“. We all saw how it ended up then. PSG have paid the 222€ clause and Neymar has arrived in the Club only to say “good bye” to his old friends.
Oh, wait. In fact – not his “old friends”, but the current ones! On the day Barcelona took Neymar to court (to get back 9€ bonus for the contract renewing last year) the Brazilian got to the city of Barcelona and… met up with Leo Messi, Luis Suarez, Gerard Pique and Ivan Rakitić (all Barca’s footballers). Moreover, they all posted their images on Instagram accounts. The media said it was kind of disrespect showed for the Club by its own players. As you can see, it was a tough summer time in Barcelona, and not only because of typical city’s clutter.
Every single day Barcelona fans were getting more and more nervous. Nothing surprising. The best team’s authorities weren’t able to buy anyone that will help the team to win other historical titles. The era of Barca has ended on the pitch, but its directors don’t work well, too – so the fans want Jose Mari Bartomeu out. They even created Twitter’s most popular hashtag #BartomeuDimiteYa – which means “Bartomeu, demit”. The atmosphere just couldn’t get even worse.

And what about the signs? Well, there are some. Barca bought players that were their B or even C plans. They don’t only loose on the pitch. The directors also fail in negotiating. They lose to Real Madrid (Ceballos), Paris Saint-Germain (Veratti and probably DI Maria), Liverpool (Coutinho). Surely there are some others that kicked Bartomeu’s representatives out of their offices. Even without letting them in. For example, LFC wasn’t rejecting the offers for Coutinho – they weren’t even answering Blaugrana’s correspondence.
Maybe Barca’s professional directors believed Coutinho transfer is possible only because of the press still talking about it. The club hadn’t even known and negotiated for Nice’s midfielder Seri before the media and Catalan fans started recommending him in the social media channels. Barca decided to go for it. Finally, they agreed with Nice and… gave up on the player, as “he doesn’t fit in the team”! Does a serious company do such things?
But… Barca finally bought Paulinho – Polish ŁKS Łódź and Lithuanian Vilnius FC ex-player – FOR 40€. It was absolutely clear that Barca should contract any midfielder. But the choice of the Chinese Guangzhou Evergrande’s footballer was criticized by almost every Barcelona’s supporter. They also bought this summer:
- Nelson Semedo (30,5€),
- Gerard Deulofeu (12€),
- Dembele (105€ + 33€)
By the way. Take a look at newest players’ skills during their presentation in “Blaugrana” kit!
Another fantastic move from Barca was signing Deulofeu. They firstly sell this “La Masia product” for 6€ and now bought him back from Everton for 12€. Just ridiculous. Now they do exactly the same with Tello, as he’s sold to Real Betis Sevilla for 4€ euros. This is not the only one who leaves sunny Barceloneta beach and comfortable Blaugrana’s bench/VIP lounge. Check the whole list below:
- Neymar Jr -> PSG (222€)
- Jeremy Mathieu -> Sporting Lisbon (0€)
- Jordi Massip -> Real Valladolid (0€)
- Marlon Santos -> Nice (2-years loan)
- Sergi Samper -> Las Palmas (1-year loan)
The only cash Barca gets is the one from Neymar transfer. Of course – it’s plenty of it, but anyway “selling” Mathieu for free would be more OK if Barca were charity foundation, not a professional football club. It doesn’t look good at all for Barca lovers and for other club’s authorities – now they know they can contract FCB players for free or almost free. It works the same way it did with Neymar. When Barca sold him, every single, even little, club transforms into a negotiation giant and want to get from FCB as much money as possible. We all could see that in Dembele’s case – 20 YEARS old Sant Etienne’s pupil bought for 105€ (+ some extras could be worth even 33€).
But not everything looks as bad as the fans see it. Paulinho is one of the most crucial players for the Brazilian national team now. He has 42 appearances there. Today the Canarinhos won 2-0 against Ecuador. Paulinho scored one of the goals and played full 90 minutes. Better this than nothing. Barca also signed Semedo – who looked really promising during the games he played so far. Anyway, the conclusions should be drawn after season’s first round ends. Next step after the national teams’ battles – Barcelona Derbi against Espanyol (on the 9th of September).
