Tibidabo – A Magical Spot above Barcelona

The Tibidabo Amusement Park

Tibidabo is a mountain offering the most spectacular view of the magical city of Barcelona. At 512 meters it is the tallest mountain in Serra de Collserola. What’s even more impressive is the old-fashioned Amusement park located on the top of the mountain. The Amusement Park is the oldest in Barcelona. Furthermore, it retains some of the most original rides some of which date back to the turn of the 20th century.

The Tibidabo Amusement Park allows you to discover the different areas and experience thrills and spills for all ages. Over 25 rides and attractions include those old-fashioned as well as the most modern ones for all of you who love beautiful sceneries as same as adrenaline.

Mount Tibidabo has many attractions but is best known for its funicular which was once considered a full attraction. Today, it is a historical symbol of the park and a must-see attraction. If you do not borrow it to go to the high hills of Barcelona, it’s as if you go to Paris and you do not visit the Eiffel Tower!
Let yourself be seduced by the timeless atmosphere of Mount Tibidabo Park, which is one of the most unusual in Barcelona, due to its location in the mountains and its ancient rides. Currently, the park is divided into six levels and on each level you can find the attractions. The most famous attractions are the Camí del Cel. You can go for a walk freely because ticket is free for this part of the park and there are still some attractions. Plaça dels Somnis is the part of the park where most of the park’s shows are played. In Dibidabo, let yourself be on an experience in reality increased because some attractions are proposed in 4D. Finally, Montanya Russa in the most wooded part of the park.

The Temple Expiatori del Sagrat Cor

The mountain’s dominating feature is the Temple Expiatori del Sagrat Cor (Expiatory Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus), a Roman Catholic church and minor basilica crowned by the enormous bronze statue of Christ. If you’d like to enjoy more of the fantastic views that Tibidabo offers, you should definitely visit the top of this Church. The overall atmosphere is spectacular especially after the sunset when the whole church is flooded with lights.

The Ferris Wheel and Other Attractions

El Avió

Built already in the 1899 and opened to the public in 1905, the Amusement Park on top of the Tibidabo is not only the oldest Amusement Park in Spain but also one of the oldest ones in the world. As most amusement parks, also the one at Tibidabo offers various rides for people of all ages. Some of the original attractions are still operating – such as the Park’s iconic ride “El Avió” (The Plane) which gives an impression of a flight above the city. Built in 1928, it’s the first attraction of the park.

However, the Park offers other attractions that are worth visiting too, such as the Museu d’Automates. Housing mechanical figures from 19th and 20th century this museum belongs among the most popular Tibidabo venues.  There is also a massive hall of mirrors, which with dazzling visual effects, has won the prestigious FAD design award, named the Miramiralls.

La Talaia

La Talaia is a platform that makes a complete tour and allows you to have an incredible panoramic view of all Barcelona. You will be able to contemplate not only the city but also the park of attraction, the forest and the neighboring cities. We strongly discourage this attraction to people with vertigo.

And finally, what catches the visitor’s eye right after entering the Amusement Park is the famous Giradabo, a ferris wheel with its colourful cabins. If you wish to experience the splendid view of the whole city of Barcelona, this is definitely a must-visit attraction.

How to get to Tibidabo

  • The Blue tram: Travel back in time while enjoying the views of Barcelona until you reach the bottom of the funicular station. Switch to the famous Funicular del Tibidabo here and enjoy the view of the city while getting to the mountaintop. The ticket is 5 € if you have already bought your place for the park or 8 € if you do not have your tickets yet.
  • By train: Take the train S1 from Plaça Catalunya to Peu del Funicular. Switch to the Funicular del Tibidabo which will take you up to the Amusement Park’s skywalk.
  • By bus: The best way is to take the Tibibus – lines T2A (from Plaça Catalunya) and T2B (from Sant G enís). One ride costs €3 and it will take you right to the top of the mountain.
  • By car: Drive up to Tibidabo from the Avinguda de Vallvidrera or the Carretera de Sant Cugat. There’s a (paid) parking area right next to the Amusement Park. You can also choose to park at the Vall d’Hebron hotel where there is a point of sale for the entrances to the park. This will give you access to the T2B line, which is free, and very convenient if you want to spend a day with family without complications during the trip.
