Sarrià-Sant Gervasi was further the last independent village to be annexed by Barcelona in 1921. Certainly, this might explain why Sarrià-Sant Gervasi neighbourhood still has this “village feel” to it, with charm and personality that can’t be found anywhere else in the city!

Sarrià-Sant Gervasi has always been one of the most prosperous, exclusive, wealthy and historical districts in Barcelona. With it’s altitude, it uses the still-working Tramvia Blau; but part of the metro line 7 connecting with the foot of the Funicular del Tibidabo. SARRIÀ-SANT GERVASI’S most famous sight is Tibidabo, the highest peak of the Collserola mountains. In the same vein it is also home to the Tibidabo amusement park, the Sagrat Cor church and the Torre de Collserola television tower; designed by the British architect Sir Norman Foster to work as a symbol for the Olympics as well as it’s job as a television and radio streaming tower.

Sights in Sarrià-Sant Gervasi

The district of Sarrià-Sant Gervasi is certainly very beautiful. This is due to the fact that it has always been home to the affluent classes of Barcelona. Subsequently, this means that many of the buildings and streets are very well maintained. You can also find some examples of the famous modernista architecture here; like in the Bellesguard which was designed by Gaudí.

The biggest sight in Sarrià-Sant Gervasi is TIBIDABO, the highest peak of the Collserola mountains. Most importanly, on the top of the mountain, you will find the Tibidabo amusement park, situated at 512 meters above sea level.

You can also see the church of Sagrat Cor and the iconic television tower! This was actually designed by the British architect Sir Norman Foster. Further from here you can get the most amazing views of Barcelona from one side and of the Collserola plain to the other.

Eating out in Sarrià-Sant Gervasi

Sarrià-Sant Gervasi neighbourhood is a great place to eat out and satisfy every one of your culinary cravings. In this district you can get a great diversity of food at any time of the day; be it for instance breakfast, lunch, dinner or a snack in-between. The food is simple but great, mainly Mediterranean and between reasonable and high-end prices.

# 1 Hofmann Restaurant

Hofmann offers an all around gourmet experience, serving mediterranean food made with the upmost care. This one MICHELIN star restaurant founded by the renowned Mey Hofmann. It is in Granada del Penedès; and further it’s one of the most popular and high-rated restaurants in Barcelona. You cannot miss out the opportunity to experience the contemporary Spanish cuisine and explore the variety of menus that they have to offer.

# 2 Casa Fernández Restaurant

Casa Fernández is a space infused with the Spanish culture and flavour that we above all know and love. # 3 Bimba’s Restaurant

Located in Flos i Calcat, Bimba’s is an Italian gastronomy experience that you can’t miss out on. However, if you choose to sit in the beautifully decorated inside or on the fresh terrace, you are in for a great time with attentive service and incredible flavours.

Drinking & clubbing

Sarrià-Sant Gervasi neighbourhood has a great selection of bars and clubs, and it’s almost impossible to single something out. If you would like to try a traditional jazz room, then head on over to the La Cova del Drac on the Carrer Vallmajor with the local Catalan singers and artists. In addition, two other great clubs to mention are the Luz de Gaz and the Sala B. Both clubs work as a concert hall and a nightclub with a large array of musical styles and dancing. However, the biggest difference being the 10 year age gap – with the younger crowd in the Sala B.

Shopping in Sarrià-Sant Gervasi neighbourhood

# Centro Comerical La Maquinista

Sarrià-Sant Gervasi neighbourhood has plenty of small, charming shops; but, as a result, it lacks actual shopping streets or malls. If you have a heart for shopping you should take the metro line 1, 9 & 10 or Renfe to Sant Andreu and visit the La Maquinista 4 stars quality 230 store mega-mall open almost every day from 9:30 to 22 hr. This commercial and shopping center further counts with international stores, supermarkets, movie theatres, restaurants and more. As it will most definitely be able to satisfy even the biggest shopping urge!

The location of the Sarrià-Sant Gervasi is in the north-west of Barcelona. Most importanly, it’s actually half of the district urban and the other half is in the Collserola national park.
