Joan Miró:

Born in Barcelona in 1893, Joan Miró developed a faultless, surrealistic style consisting of bold shapes and bright colors. His unique childlike style recreates conventional ways of painting. Miró was among the first who had to do with the development of automatic drawing, which opposed the established method of painting.

Joan Miró’s style and contribution to art has been internationally recognized, and Barcelona is one of the best places to view his work and to experience his artworks.

These respected artist died at age 90 in 1983. He left a great legacy, which can be viewed in the Joan Miró Foundation and the city. You can also be one of his most famous sculptures; Dona i Ocell, look at the Joan Miró Park near Plaza España.

Fundacion Miro:

The foundation opened in 1975, and this was the first public institution in Barcelona exclusively contemporary art showed. It was meant to encourage younger artists to practice this art form. Joan Miró has many of his pieces donated to the foundation, and it is still today one of the best places to view his art.

There are also temporary exhibitions throughout the year and you can view the calendar on the foundation its official website.

Espai 13 is an extra space dedicated to experimental artists. In this space is a free reign to show their pieces. Every time you visit the foundation is there something different and interesting to watch.

In the building of the foundation is also a library that contains documents, articles, and books related to the artist. There are gift shops and a restaurant where you can enjoy a coffee and meal on the beautiful garden terrace.
