Barcelona New Year’s Swim 2018

Start the New Year in a genuinely original way! Take part in the first swim of the year, a tradition of taking a dip in the Mediterranean at Sant Sebastiá beach on the 1st of January that has been practiced in Barcelona since 1996.

This Popular event is locally called “Primer Bany de l’Any” meaning First Swim of the Year and it takes place in front of the ‘CNAB’  Club Natació Atlètic Barceloneta. Everything is organized by the Barcelona Athletics Swimming Club, which is a sports center by the beach that is also home to a fitness center and several pools.

The sea temperature is usually around 12 to 14 degrees Celcius and the air temperature can even be warm – sometimes around 18 degrees Celcius depending on the sun. The first swim of the year is a fun, although a bit chilly way, of celebrating the New Year in Barcelona.

Participation is completely free and registration is not required. However, if you do register at the swimming club reception, then you will be able to have a nice hot shower reserved for you after your cold adventure in the clubhouse and get a diploma as a souvenir after the swim.

This is a great event for both locals and visitors alike, it is a way to feel integrated into the culture and with the locals of Barcelona.
