The whole village seems more modernist than the hospital, and it was deemed revolutionary at a time when open spaces and aesthetics were not believed to help the healing of patients. The building was designed not just aesthetic values, but rather created functional and hygienic care environment. The pavilions, each serving its own purpose and underground walkways allow easy passage between them.

Today, the stunning modernist architecture can be admired on guided tours. Currently, the hospital is under restoration, but the tourist tours are still in operation, and they can watch the progressive renovation work. Ticket price is 10 € for adults and 5 € for reduced rates for groups. Since the restoration is ongoing round of more detailed program will vary according to the situation.

The grand Hospital is a great example of Barcelona’s modernist architecture and represents well this sophisticated, glamorous diverse city. I wish every hospital should be like this!
