The best time to avoid tourists and crowds in Barcelona would definitely be in the winter season. A much quieter time in the city, however still a high level of energy and excitement. If you’re looking to visit Barcelona and feel more like a local, then winter is the perfect time to visit. Even without tourists, Spanish culture is very loud and bubbly, which is what makes anytime of year a great time to visit Spain. The Christmas markets are an extremely popular event during winter in Barcelona. Although not as cold as other Spanish cities, you can certainly feel the festive season in Barcelona’s warmer climate.
One of the reasons Spring is such a great time to visit Barcelona is because of the weather. The city reaches highs of 20C and lows of 16C, not too hot and not too cold. Just warm enough to visit the beach and some of the many rooftop bars in the city. Ideal temperatures for roaming the city and strolling through some of the older neighbourhoods. Make sure to keep an eye out for some of Gaudí’s pieces. One of our favourite spring time activities is hiking. Thanks to Barcelona being at the foot of the Collserola mountain range and just one hour from Montserrat, there are so many hiking opportunities. These are great day trips out of Barcelona if you are looking to get out of the city. Spring really is the perfect time of year to explore the city before it gets too sweltering.
If you’re looking for the party scene, then Summer is the ideal time to visit the city. Barcelona is famous for many of its most popular nightclubs residing right on the beachfront. Summer is particularly busy as there is a large variety of festivals. Some of the most popular festivals include; Primavera Sound, Pride Barcelona, Brunch in the park, Sala Montjuïc outdoor film festival and many more. Barcelona is such an inclusive city, therefore we are confident you will be able to find a festival that suits you!
The main attraction of Barcelona in Fall is the commencement of the football season. Technically starting in August, the season runs all the way through Fall. Barcelona FC is one of the most popular attractions of Barcelona. Many people travel from extremely far distances to visit Barcelona in the Fall to watch a match at Camp Nou.
If you’re looking to swing by an FC Barcelona match, whilst also having time to catch some rays on the beach, then September is the perfect month for a trip. The warm weather of Fall also invites other outdoor activities, for example water sports. It is still warm enough to try a water sport that you haven’t considered yet, maybe kitesurfing or even paddle board yoga?
