Barcelona’s Beaches

Barcelona’s location is just enviable. Most of the coastline is occupied by the city’s beaches, which because of the Mediterranean climate can be used all year round. Barcelona beaches cover over 4.5 kilometres and belong to the districts of Ciutat Vella and Sant Marti. With the arrival of good weather, beaches are going to be the hot spot for hanging out for the locals as well as tourists!

Here’s a list of all Barcelona’s beaches:

# 1 Barceloneta

Barceloneta beach is one of the most popular and oldest beaches in the city. It is more than 1 km long and is one of the biggest beaches in Barcelona. The beach is close to the port and not too far from the city centre, so it can be easily reached by public transport. Due to this, the beach is highly popular among tourists and in summer, it gets really crowded. Regardless of whether it’s day or night Barceloneta is a buzzing hot spot at all hours.

The beach is kitted out with different kinds of sports equipment’s, such as Volleyball courts, Soccer table areas on the Eastern side of the beach, a Ping-Pong table, a gym area and a children’s playground area on the Western side. Not to mention, the Beach Centre is here. The centre provides all the necessary information about beaches in Barcelona. Moreover, it organises various activities all year around. Additionally, you can find the Beach Library service there as well.

# 2 San Sebastian

The beach is found in the Ciutat Vella district. Together Barceloneta is one of the most traditional beaches in Barcelona. The beach is considered to be a favorite among local people as around 70% of all visitors are local residents. The location of the beach allows you to get there by public transport or even on foot. (Metro stop – Barceloneta, Line 4) One of the most important features about San Sebastian is that the beach has an area for disabled people with the bathing assistance service. Amphibian bathing chairs are available as well. This whole area is highly adapted for disabled visitors with its wooden walkways, special changing rooms and showers.

# 3 Nova Icaria

This beach is in the Sant Marti district and is 400 metres long; it is quite close to the Olympic Marina and is full of fantastic beachside bars and restaurants. The beach is usually visited by people who live outside of Barcelona. It is popular among families with children and is considered one of the quietest beaches in Barcelona. The beach has various sports and leisure equipment including two volleyball courts, a games area and Ping-Pong tables. As well as San Sebastian beach, Nova Icaria has an area for disabled people. The service and equipment are exactly the same as in San Sebastian, so you have many options.

# 4 Bogatell

Bogatell beach is very close to the Olympic Port, found in the Sant Marti district it is around 600 metres long. This beach is considered as being one of the safest beaches in the city. The average age of Bogatell visitors is seen to be one of the highest, around 38 years. The beach has some sports equipment including two volleyball courts and Ping-Pong tables. It has lifeguard services, showers and ramps to take you on to the beach, bars, restaurants, parking, etc. The promenade runs up to Sant Sebastian Beach, in the Barceloneta district.

# 5 Mar Bella

Mar Bella beach is also in the Sant Marti district. It is on the eastern side of the Barcelona coastline and was developed as part of the preparation for the 1992 Olympic Games. So it is one of the newer beaches in the city. Most regular visitors are young people who in most cases live in the Sant Marti district. The beach has a nudist area. With regards to recreational facilities, there are volleyball courts, skating areas, kid’s playgrounds, Ping-Pong tables and basketball nets. Additionally, there is a beach library which is open in July and August.

# 6 Nova Mar Bella

An interesting feature of this beach is that it is highly popular among women and with young people consisting of more than 60% of total users. People who live outside Barcelona are most likely to come here. The beach is in the Sant Marti district and is considered one of the quietest and calmest beaches, which is why the beach has a great number of regular visitors. Importantly, the beach has an area for disabled people.

# 7 Llevant

This is the newest of the beaches in Barcelona and the last of the beaches created on the Barcelona coastline. The 380-metre long beach is in Sant Marti alongside the Mar Bella beach. Llevant has all equipment and services which are necessary in order to have a good day and chill out on this beach. These services include Red Cross, Local Police, beach information point, adapted showers, adapted public toilets, sun loungers, beach umbrellas, drinks and ice cream kiosks, bicycle parking areas and Wi-fi.
