Nova Icària

Known to be one of the most peaceful and relaxing beaches of Barcelona is Nova Icària Beach in the center of the city´s coastline, bordered by Port Olímpic in the South and the Espigó del Bogatell pier in the North. The 400 m long sandy beach is frequented by families with children, as well as by groups of friends through late spring, the summertime and even in the first few weeks of September. It has been found to be one of the beaches in Barcelona where visitors stay the longest. This is perhaps due to the beach´s quiet and tranquil nature or to the wide variety of activities, services and equipment available to beach-goers.

For families traveling for a short term stay in Barcelona and seeking to spend a leisurely weekend afternoon under the Mediterranean sun, Nova Icària Beach offers plenty of services to guarantee relaxation. You will have the option to hire deck chairs and parasols, and to use the children´s play area as well. The beach comes with clean WC facilities and changing rooms, as well as lifeguard services.

For sportier visitors, several types of beach sporting equipment is also available, including a game area, a ping-pong table near the breakwater of Bogatell and two volleyball courts at the Southern tip of the beach. You´ll have the option to try out a dinghy sailing course, or to spend the afternoon kayaking or windsurfing.

Nova Icària is also popular among disabled visitors for the wide range of services they offer to persons with reduced mobility. Besides handicap parking and a beach area specifically for handicapped visitors, Nova Icària also boasts wooden walkways that crosses the sand to the water, a disabled-friendly changing room, a sit-down shower and lift. Nova Icària offers a volunteer service to assist disabled visitors to enter and leave the water, using an amphibian bathing chair when necessary. These services are available in July, August and in the first two weeks of September, daily from 11am to 2pm and 4pm to 7pm. In the second two weeks of September they are available on weekends and public holidays from 11 am to 2pm and 4pm to 7pm. Find Handicap Apartments Barcelona nearby!

Their menu offers a nice range of international favorites, including fresh salads, tapas, sandwiches, hamburgers and burritos, all perfect for refueling from a day spent under the sun.
