Museum of Zoology Barcelona‏

The Museum of Zoology Barcelona‏ is located in the Castello de Tres Dragones (Castle of Three Dragons). You will find this fascinating building in one of the most beautiful parks in the city, Parc de la Ciutadella.

The building itself has an interesting history. It was originally built for the World Fair in Barcelona in 1888 by Lluís Domènech i Montaner. It is said that the architect was given free reign over the design as it was expected to be demolished after the World Fair. However, this wonderfully unique and curious building is still standing and, luckily, was never demolished. From the 1930s onwards this building has housed the Museum of Zoology Barcelona.

The museum itself is full of stuffed animals and skeletons. The highlights of which include a skeleton of a huge whale and the Nature Sounds Library. The Museum of Zoology Barcelona contains intriguing artifacts, interesting objects and curiosities waiting to be discovered. Where else in Barcelona could you see a massive whale? It is a fun place to wonder through and perfect for budding vets or biologists.

It makes an absolutely great museum to explore with the family and young kids. The Nature Sounds Library is definitely a fun experience to discover all the sounds of nature and animals. Whilst you are visiting the museum be sure to check out the Parc de la Ciutadella. This park is one of our personal favourites in Barcelona and is perfect for a lazy sunny Sunday and picnics.

At the moment, unfortunately the museum is temporarily closed for renovation. They are currently assembling new and exciting collections to be displayed. Meanwhile, you should explore all the other interesting museums Barcelona has to offer.
