Mercat del Ninot Barcelona Spain

El Ninot Barcelona

You will find amazing food markets in every area of Barcelona and each one is as popular as the next. Each market has a great atmosphere and lots of wonderful fresh produce to sample and purchase.

El Ninot Market dates back to 1893 when it was originally an open air market. The name of the market comes from a wooden figure of a puppet. The owner’s daughter of a nearby tavern found the figure in the sea and liked it so much she hung it up outside the tavern which was from then on known as The Puppet Inn. Consequently the market also took the same name ‘El Ninot’.

The market is located in the left of Eixample district, close to Hospital Clinic on Carrer Villaroel and Carrer de Mallorca. El Ninot consists of not just fresh food produce, but also tapas bars and clothing. The building is currently being renovated and being completely updated. However, there is a temporary market where you can still soak up its charming atmosphere.

If you would like to experience the same lively atmosphere of La Boqueria but without the hoards of tourists getting in the way, then El Ninot is a perfect market to wander through and get a sense of a longstanding Catalan market.

Saturdays: 8am to 3pm

How to get there:
